Forum on Key National Indicators: Assessing the Nations Position and Progress

The forum brought together a diverse group of national leaders to discuss how the worlds leading democracies measuring national performance including what the US could do to improve its approach and why, what are the important areas to measure in assessing US national performance, and how could new US approaches be led and implemented.

Development Report Card for the States 2003

The Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED) report concludes that despite more than a year of economic recovery, the economies of well-performing states are still stressed by higher unemployment, lower wage jobs, slower pay growth and declining employer-provided health coverage. CFED uses 68 measures to provide a relative, state-by-state assessment of economic development in three main areas — performance, business vitality and development capacity

Gone But Not Forgotten: Labor Flows, Knowledge Spillovers, and Enduring Social Capital

The reports indicates that patent citations occur disproportionately more often in locations where an inventor was living prior to being issued the patent. While additional research is warranted, the policy implications for local Technology Based Economic Development groups might suggest encouraging greater social and professional interaction among the local research and technical communities.

Better Deal For Illinois: Improving Economic Development Policy

The report begins with a 25 year historical narrative of Illinois economic development polices and deals, following the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs through the past three gubernatorial administrations. Two case studies of costly tax-based subsidies follow: Economic Development for a Growing Economy, and Single Sales Factor. The authors then provide five specific case studies.
