South Carolina Technology Initiative 2000

The South Carolina Technology Alliances strategic plan outlines six specific recommendations for strengthening the state’s position in a knowledge-based economy. The plan, requested by Governor Jim Hodges in a July 1999 executive order, addresses four short-term and three long-term goals outlined by Governor Hodges to increase South Carolina’s competitive position with its neighboring states, as well as improve its global posture as a technology leader.

New Millennium Growth Strategy for Hawaiis Economy

Governor Ben Cayetanos New Millennium Growth Strategy for Hawaiis Economy, an economic development plan to improve the states performance in a knowledge-based economy. The 90-page report, penned by the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, includes several new initiatives for developing and growing technology businesses as well as strengthening existing economic development efforts.

State Strategies for the New Economy

The National Governors Association (NGA) report begins the series to explore how states can meet the challenges of governing in the New Economy by presenting action steps to the nation’s governors from the NGA Task Force on the New Economy. The Task Force calls for changes in the way states govern, deliver services, and attract the workers and businesses driving the New Economy.

MTDC Profile

The Massachusetts Technology Development (MTDC) Corporation profile examines the diversity of approaches to technology-based economic development. The profile includes background on the creation of the corporation, description of MTDC activities and funds, information concerning organizational structure and staffing, a summary of accomplishments and lessons learned over MTDCs 22 year history. Challenges, future plans, and sample success stories are also highlighted in the brief.

Internet Economy Indicators

The study released independently by the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce at the University of Texas -- Austin looks at the impact of the Internet on job growth and revenues for four segments of the Internet Economy. It was based on a survey of more than 2,000 U.S. companies that generated all or some of their revenues from products and services related directly to the Internet.

Tools for Growth: A Legislative Agenda for the New Economy

The Progressive Policy Institute’s New Economy Task Force report defines four key New Economy policy areas: research and technological innovation; education and skills; e-commerce; and fostering digital opportunity. The 21-page document also gives eight specific legislative recommendations that address the changes of the New Economy on a micro level.

Bayer Facts of Science Education VI: Americans Views on Science, Technology, Education and the Future

A Gallup survey conducted on behalf of the Bayer Corporation in partnership with the National Science Foundation found that Americans say they take pride in the nations leadership role in science and technology and believe the U.S. needs to continue investing in scientific research and development in order to remain at the forefront of discovery and innovation.
