Firms and Places in the Knowledge Economy: The Scale Question in Economic Geography
The paper discusses the importance of scale economies in the knowledge economy. It argues that even if there may be positive scale economies of knowledge creation in many high-tech sectors -- for example, biotech -- the role of external economies should not be neglected.
