National Science Foundation seeks feedback on the development of an AI plan
The National Science Foundation, on behalf of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP), is providing the opportunity for public input toward the development of a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan, as directed by President Trump’s Executive Order 14179. The Request for Information (RFI) is extremely broad. It states only that responses, to be submitted by March 15, may address any relevant AI policy topic, including but not limited to:
• hardware and chips,
• data centers,
• energy consumption and efficiency,
• model development,
• open source development,
• application and use (either in the private sector or by government),
• explainability and assurance of AI model outputs,
• cybersecurity,
• data privacy and security throughout the lifecycle of AI system development and deployment (to include security against AI model attacks),
• risks, regulation and governance,
• technical and safety standards,
• national security and defense,
• research and development,
• education and workforce,
• innovation and competition,
• intellectual property,
• procurement,
• international collaboration, and
• export controls
Respondents are encouraged to suggest concrete AI policy actions needed to address the topics raised.
The national AI Action Plan was required in Executive Order 14179, issued January 23 and is a response to President Trump’s EO 14148 rescinding President Biden’s AI EO in 2023.This EO is not subject to any known legal challenges or court-ordered stays.
