Ceremony set to mark opening of second phase of technology park

MOSCOW -- The completion of Alturas Technology Park, Phase II, will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at the public park located in Alturas Park.

The celebration will be at 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Moscow Urban Renewal Agency. Speakers will include John McCabe, the agency's chairman, Moscow Mayor Nancy Chaney, Latah County Commission Chairman Jack Nelson and Latah Economic Development Chairwoman Robin Woods.

Alturas Phase II is a seven-lot subdivision located at Alturas Parkway, near the intersection of Highway 8 and Mountain View Road.

Businesses located in the park include Alturas Analytics; Anatek Labs; Andrea Beckett, CPA; BioTracking LLC; Benchmark Research & Safety Inc.; Comtech AHA; CC Benefits; Economic Modeling Specialists; Mann & Stanke, CPAs; Walker & Pattinson, Attorneys at Law; and Siemens Building Technologies.

Public invited to view annual Ranger Challenge

HARVARD -- The public is welcome to watch the University of Idaho's Army ROTC Ranger Challenge from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Camp Grizzly, near here.

The 2005 champions, UI's Chrisman Battalion, will defend its title against teams from Washington State University, Central Washington University and Eastern Washington University.

The camp is just off Highway 6 near Laird Park. More information and directions are available by calling (208) 885-6528.

Environmental scientist to speak at library

PULLMAN -- Chris Looney will speak at the public meeting of the Palouse Prairie Foundation Thursday in the Edith Hecht Room of Neill Public Library in Pullman.

Looney, an environmental science doctoral candidate at the University of Idaho, will present "The Palouse Through Rose-Covered Glasses" at 7 p.m. at the library, located at 210 N. Grand Ave.

The discussion will involve arthropod communities that inhabit native and introduced roses in the Palouse and the relation wild roses have to biological conservation in the farming landscape.

UI student group to host tribal gathering Saturday

MOSCOW -- The University of Idaho Native American Student Association will be the host for the annual Tutxinmepu Pow Wow, a gathering of Northwest Indian tribes, Saturday in Memorial Gym on the UI campus.

Grand entry for the event will begin at noon. Dance categories range from tots to golden age. The host drums are the Stone Creek Singers of Red Mesa, Utah.

The festivities will include royalty contests, arts and crafts, and much more.

The drum contest winner will receive $2,500. Winners will be announced at 1 a.m. Sunday at the end of the event.

Bowling night planned for youngsters Thursday

PULLMAN -- The Teen Activities program at Pullman Parks and Recreation will sponsor bowling night from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Zeppoz.

The event is open to students in grades six through eight. Cost is $4 and students must bring ID cards. Pullman teen staff and student volunteers from Washington State University will chaperone the event.
