REP. CUELLAR ANNOUNCES $1 MILLION FOR ZAPATA COUNTY HIGHER EDUCATION ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY CENTER

Rep. Henry Cuellar, R-Texas (28th CD), issued the following press release:

Today, Rep. Henry Cuellar announced that the Zapata ISD has been granted $1,000,000 by the Economic Development Administration (EDA). The funds will go towards the renovation of the site for the Zapata County Higher Education Advanced Technology Center.

"These funds will help jump-start higher education in Zapata County and make the community and its residents more competitive in the global market," said Congressman Cuellar. "Our economy relies on having a highly-skilled and well-trained workforce, and this grant will help accomplish just that."

The Zapata County Higher Education Advanced Technology Center will provide workforce-related and technology-based training as a way to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the South Texas Border region.

Zapata Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Peggy Umphres said, "In our latest effort to bring about a significant change in the future of our lives and the lives of our children, we realized a dream by creating a resource that affords both hope and opportunity for all who live and work in our community. Congressman Henry Cuellar has proven to be a reliable and dependable supporter of causes and efforts that endeavor to make profound and positive changes in the quality of life for all his constituents."

Congressman Cuellar continued, "With the collaboration of the Economic Development Administration and the Zapata community, the residents of Zapata will now have more of the resources necessary to compete in the global economy. Economic development and education are among my top priorities, and I will continue working to bring more resources to our local communities. I would like to thank Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and regional EDA administrator Pedro Garza for their continued efforts in helping our communities achieve their economic goals."
