University of Missouri leader follows Floyd
DATELINE: COLUMBIA Mo.
A vice president at the University of Missouri is heading to Washington State University to continue working for Elson Floyd.
John Gardner has been vice president for research and economic development at the University of Missouri system. He will hold a similar position vice president for economic development and extension at Washington State starting July 1.
Floyd, who left Missouri in April to become president of Washington State, made the formal announcement Monday, the University of Missouri said in a news release.
Floyd created Gardner's position at Missouri and hired him for it, with duties starting in October 2005. Part of the job was commercializing university research work and developing university research parks.
Previously, Gardner had been an associate dean of research and outreach in the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
The interim president of the university system, Gordon Lamb, said he's looking for replacements to continue the economic development emphasis.
