Barbour to announce senate appointment Monday

Gov. Haley Barbour plans to announce the interim appointment to fill the unexpired term for U.S. Sen. Trent Lott at press conferences Monday.

Buddy Bynum, spokesman for Barbour, will make the annoucement at press conferences in Jackson and Gulfport. The Jackson conference is 11 a.m. and the Gulfport conference is at 1:30 p.m.

The appointee will fill the seat until a special election is held Nov. 4.

Bynum also said the governor tentatively plans to give his state of the state address Jan. 21 or Jan. 22.
