NEW YORK STATE FOUNDATION FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION ANNOUNCES TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER INCENTIVE AWARDS

The New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research issued the following news release:
Edward Reinfurt, Executive Director of the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR), today announced $973,000 in State, industry and university support to two universities that will assist the academic research institutions in bringing high-tech innovations from the research lab to the marketplace, and spur the creation of new jobs and new companies in New York in a variety of high-tech fields.
"There is a strong push in New York State for more collaborative efforts between industry and universities. NYSTAR has played a pivotal role in filling the gaps to create the bonds that will lead to further high tech economic growth throughout the State." said Edward Reinfurt.
NYSTAR's Technology Transfer Incentive Program is designed to promote, encourage and facilitate economic development in New York through university-based or corporate-sponsored research which assists companies within the State to commercialize high technology products and bring them to the marketplace.
The following institutions were awarded Technology Transfer Incentive Program grants:
* University of Rochester was awarded $473,000 to work with SiMPore to use previously developed porous-silicon ultra filtration technology in biochemical separation.
* SUNY College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry was awarded $500,000 to work with Lyonsdale Biomass, LLC and TreeSource Solutions, LLC to conduct the largest-scale North American commercial harvest and expansion effort of short rotation willow biomass crops.
* NYSTAR has advanced several major initiatives to expand high technology business opportunities in New York. The Governor's Centers of Excellence initiative, along with Strategically Targeted Academic Research Centers and Advanced Research Centers, focus on critical emerging technologies that are expected to become major high-tech growth areas. Each one of the Center's is designed to complement other specialized academic centers in a seamless network of high-tech research and economic development.
