$300M Sematech vote planned for Friday

ALBANY - The state Public Authorities Control Board plans to vote Friday on $300 million in funding for the Sematech project at the University at Albany.

State lawmakers and Empire State Development Corp. have approved the money, part of a $600 million effort to move Sematach's headquarters from Austin, Texas, to UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

Sematech is the international computer chip manufacturing consortium that in the 1980s helped launch Austin into prominence in the semiconductor industry.
