A round of federal funding will allow for construction of a new technology incubator at Fredonia State College.

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, announced $150,000 has been secured for the project. The incubator has been operating within a temporary facility. The new incubator will be built at the corner of West 2nd Street and Central Avenue in Dunkirk. It will be an extension of the university's main campus at 280 Central Avenue in Fredonia.

Construction on a 21,000-square-foot, two-story permanent structure, the first of potentially three buildings on this new campus, is expected to begin this summer, with completion targeted for sometime next year. It will house approximately 30 start-up companies within technology sectors, offering access to a range of support, including infrastructure, business planning, marketing, finance, accounting and legal consulting, and other shared services.

The project is a result of a partnership among SUNY Fredonia, the City of Dunkirk and Chautauqua County. Its goal is to help entrepreneurs start successful technology-based businesses with growth potential that are committed to remaining in Western New York.
