GOV. BLANCO ANNOUNCES TECHNOLOGY AWARD WINNERS

Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, D-La., issued the following news release:

Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, in partnership with TechSouth, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Louisiana Technology Council (LTC), today announces the winners for the 2006 Governors Technology Awards. Five broad categories honor individuals, companies, universities and other organizations that advocate technology in Louisiana.

The 2006 award winners are:

Technology Leader of the Year Award - Matthew Wisdom, Turbo Squid, Inc.

Technology Company of the Year Award - Century Telephone Inc.

University Technology Leader of the Year Award - Dr. Les Guice, Louisiana Tech University

Innovator of the Year Award - The Schumacher Group

Rising Star of the Year Award - Barrister Global Services

"The growth and development of Louisiana's technology-driven businesses is critical in diversifying our economy. I am proud to recognize these businesses and individuals for their contributions to Louisiana's economic growth today and well into the future."

The Annual Governor's Technology Awards emphasize technology as a driving force behind the growth and diversification of the state's economy. The awards focus attention on the state's existing technology-based industries, such as medical and biomedical; micro-manufacturing; software; auto regulation; internet and telecommunications; environmental technologies; food technologies and materials and other industries.
