Church to be razed to build technology park
DATELINE: JOHNSTOWN Pa.
A 104-year-old Lutheran church will be razed to make way for a new business park.
Conemaugh Enterprises bought St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church for $175,000 last year. Officials had hoped to turn the building into part of the new Greater Johnstown Technology Park, but announced this week that it was not feasible to keep the church.
"We're like a family," said church council member Cindy Santichen. "So it's almost like part of a family dying."
Several buildings on the site have already been taken down.
The church's small but loyal congregation has been asked to leave the church by July 15. A final service is planned for June 3.
