How do you measure innovation?
On May 18, the Mid-Michigan Innovation Team is going to outline its way.
The MMIT is hosting a town hall meeting focusing on innovation. It will focus on what it sees as innovative and creative activities within a 13-county region in mid-Michigan called the WIRED region.
The meeting also will look at opportunities and challenges within the region.
WIRED - Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development - is a $15 million federal initiative focusing on transforming Michigan's economy. The mid-Michigan team includes dozens of partners, including Capital Area Michigan Works.
Randall Kempner from the Council on Competitiveness will present a regional innovation assessment at the meeting. Matt Roush, editor for the Great Lakes Information Technology Report, will also be on hand, as will David Cole, chairman of the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor.
Cole will explore how the automotive industry is applying lessons learned to support its own transformation and how new and emerging mid-Michigan sectors can benefit.
Regionalism is the new buzzword. It behooves us all to get involved and get to know our neighbors, and, more important, what are neighbors are doing that's innovative and creative.
Join the MMIT from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Lansing Center for this important opportunity to learn, network, discuss and plan. Register at www. midmiinnovationteam.org.
After all, sometimes the greatest innovation is simply coming together to address a common set of issues and collaborate on how to change.
