Louisiana Tech University issued the following news release:
Louisiana Tech has once again received recognition from Small Times magazine, a trade periodical for micro and nanotechnologies.
In the nation in the magazine's May issue, Tech was ranked 10th for commercializing nanotechnology inventions.
"This is a validation of our accomplishments," said Tech President Dan Reneau. "It's surprising but exciting and pleasing. Our faculty, staff and students are doing a marvelous job."
Les Guice, vice president for research and development, said he was honored by the recognition.
"Last year we were ranked on the education side, and this time we were on the commercialization side," Guice said. "To come up on the commercialization side is a big thing for us."
As for next year, Guice said he is not sure if Tech will once again come out in the top 10, but he hopes so.
"We respond to a survey questionnaire and explain what we're doing, such as the number of patents, inventions, licenses and start-up companies," Guice said. "We had a really good year last year. This is a tribute to our folks who are innovative and turn their innovations into business opportunities."
The top three institutions listed for commercialization of nanotechnology by Small Times were Arizona State University, State University of New York-Albany and North Carolina State University.
