Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Says Strategic Investments to Prepare Students for 21st Century Workplace; $1.4 Million in Grants, $904,000 in Matching
DATELINE: HARRISBURG, Pa. May 30
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced the investment of $1.4 million to prepare high school students in 40 counties for future jobs.
"Educating Pennsylvania's young people is one of the smartest investments we can make," Governor Rendell said. "A smarter, better-trained and highly skilled workforce is exactly the return we're looking for."
The grants are made available through Pennsylvania's Regional Career Education Partnership Program for Youth, a cooperative workforce-development initiative by the state departments of Labor & Industry and Education.
The 12 grants provide $1.4 million for improving career-related education. Accompanied by an additional $904,000 in private-sector matching funds, the total investment is $2.3 million.
The Regional Career Education Partnership Program for Youth promotes career preparation for students throughout the state's workforce investment areas. This program partners with Project 720 high schools - one of Governor Rendell's Job Ready PA workforce development initiatives - to strengthen career-related curriculum and encourage employer support of Pennsylvania's vision for high school reform.
Combined with $1.2 million in grants announced in April 2006, the total state funding for these initiatives to date is $2.6 million.
The Rendell administration is committed to creating a first-rate public education system, protecting our most vulnerable citizens and continuing economic investment to support our communities and businesses.
