CalTIP 2002 Impact Analysis - A Survey of Companies Highlighting their Utilization of the California Technology Investment Partnership

The purpose of this study is to provide an objective analysis of the contribution of CalTIP to the local tech community and to assess the quality of its administration in San Diego. Since its inception in 1993, a total of $8 million in CalTIP funding has been awarded to companies developing technological innovations and applications in San Diego.

Evaluating the Impacts of Local Economic Development Policies on Local Economic Outcomes: What Has Been Done and What is Doable?

The paper from The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research suggests that more rigorous evaluations of local economic development programs and policies are feasible. Numerous ways in which to perform the evaluations are presented including random experimentation, statistical analysis and focus groups.

Continuing Record of Achievement: The Economic Impact Of The Ben Franklin Technology Partners

The independent impact analysis of Ben Franklin Technology Partners reports that $311 million in public investments resulted in a 23 to 1 return on the public investment, or a $7.9 billion impact on the Pennsylvania economy. The analysis also addresses the perceived or real bias inherent to client self-reporting, a common complaint about impact studies on public technology based economic development programs.

New Economy Strategy

Governor Don Sundquist and the Tennessee Technology Development Corporation released the broad plan to improve the states economic viability through science and technology. The strategy encompasses many new initiatives to complement TTDCs existing portfolio of tech-based economic development efforts.

Lincoln Technology Assessment

The report provides an assessment of the citys telecommunications infrastructure and its usage by the Lincoln community. The report also gives specific recommendations for how to make the community more competitive for technology related businesses and provides detailed comparisons of several benchmarks for Lincoln and other cities — Boise, ID; Boulder, CO; Des Moines, IA; Ft. Collins, CO; Kansas City, MO; Madison, WI; and Omaha, NE.

Assessing Maines Technology Clusters

The report by the University of Southern Maines Muskie School indicates assesses Maines seven targeted technology sectors and represents the first systematic attempt to analyze the growth of the states industry clusters. The report concludes that Maine has no star clusters but potential stars, biotechnology and information technology. Additionally, Maines forest products, agriculture and aquaculture clusters are strong, yet have small potential for growth.
