The following information was released by the office of Colorado Rep. Doug Lamborn:

Rep. Doug Lamborn (Colorado Springs) was notified today by the Economic Development Administration of the United States Department of Commerce, that it has awarded the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) a $100,000 grant to fund the Research Park Business Plan.

Innovation is the key to economic growth. The creation of new industries leads to the creation of new jobs, and a research park at UCCS will do just that. said Rep. Lamborn. The research and development facilities will create an invaluable learning environment to attract exceptional students to the university while also drawing investment and new business to our city and state.

This grant will supply a portion of the funds necessary to create a park targeting and promoting new industries to meet the need for new jobs. Over 190 research parks exist throughout the nation, typically providing an average of 3,400 jobs and $186 million to local economies.

We appreciate the support of the U.S. Department of Commerce, as well as the City of Colorado Springs and state and federal elected officials as UCCS grows to meet the needs of Southern Colorado, said Brian Burnett the vice chancellor of Administration and Finance at UCCS.

UCCS is already one of the nation's top engineering schools and it is the fastest growing university in Colorado, Rep. Lamborn said. An outstanding institution with a bright future, UCCS is an ideal venue for a research park.
